Yet another nice color variant of Whip-Poor-Will. This bird has a strong green color and some blue in the head region. The bird might have been marked as a II because within the clear head one can see some material protruding from the inside.
Whip-Poor-Will was created for the Birds of Passage collection in 1991-1997. You can find the birds of passage on pages 68-69 in the new book "Toikka's Glass Birds". In Finnish the bird is called Pajusotka. Paju is the Finnish word for willow. And sotka is a scaup duck. The color for Whip Poor Will was obviously at least in the beginning inspired by the colors of young willow.
On the other hand whip-poor-will is an existing bird species and one can also very well see resemblances in the glass bird's habitus to that bird.
Whip-Poor-Will stayed in production for 3 decades, and the color of individual Whip-Poor-Will glass birds has varied over the years.
For comparison the last two pictures show this individual together with some other color variants of ours.
