This small bowl or vase by Tapio Wirkkala is called Jäkälä (=lichen) in Finnish and was in production at Iittala 1950-1964. The product number is 3515. This design is also known as the "Finger Vase" or "Finger Bowl", and was presented and celebrated at the Triennale in Milan 1951.
These items have very nice characteristics and the incredibly silky smooth, velvety surface is sensational to touch. This particular piece is a very neat eye catching representative of this group of items due to its tiny size.
In the last photograph this item poses together with a large, 21cm tall Finger vase of ours.
Size: ca 9cm in diameter, height ca 9,5cm
