This is a beautifully colored Ruby Bird, with nicely spread metallic lustered spots and also a metallic head. From the color of the text on the Iittala sticker you can determine that this bird dates from one of the first five years of the production.
Ruby Bird is a classic and popular design from year 1996 by famous professor Oiva Toikka.
Originally the bird was made in real ruby red glass, which was a difficult color to make, as it needed special procedures. The real ruby red color often has a slightly yellow tan that partly shows in these individuals. Later the red color was made by a different technique that did not give as variable nuances in color, and from 2014 onwards, when the bird blowing moved to Iittala, the Ruby Birds were made in yet a new, cranberry red color. These cranberry red birds are laser signed O. Toikka IITTALA, so they are easy to distinguish from the Nuutajärvi ones.
