Helena Tynell - Yellow Palkki 12,5cm Riihimäen Lasi 1966-1969
Palkki vase in beautiful vaseline yellow color by Finnish glass designer Helena Tynell. Palkki was part of the so called Pirtti series, to which also belonged Pala, Pultti and Kaappikello. Palkki was produced in two sizes. This is the smaller one. It takes ca 1l of water when filled up to the edges.
This type of lemon colored glass changes color depending on the wavelength of the light hitting it. In UV light it turns fluorescent green.
Glass designer Helena Tynell is also known for her Sun Bottles (or ‘Flower bottles’) that were made 1964-1974 at Riihimäen lasi, Finland.
Helena Tynell designed for Riihimäen lasi in Finland from 1946, and later moved to Germany where she designed for Limburg glass factory from 1976. In 1986 she moved back to Finland after a long career as glass designer, and in January 2016 she passed away at 97 years of age.
