This is a big bird, very handsome and quite rare.
Golden Eagle (Kultakokko) bird was designed to honor the old legends and stories in the epic "Kalevala", which is the national epic of Finland, put together by Elias Lönnrot. Kalevala was first published in 1835 and the rewised (and most used) version was published in 1849. So, in 1999 the 150th Anniversary of "Kalevala" was celebrated.
Despite the fact that the bird is made in glass it somehow manages to resemble a bronze statue. A very magnifique bird designed by famous professor Oiva Toikka and hand made in the legendary glass hut in Nuutajärvi, in Finland.
Kultakokko was in production in 1999-2001, for mail order only. The Kultakokko bird is very rare, only 150 pieces were made!
This one is numbered 147/150.
It is illustrated on page 59 in the book "Birds by Toikka" and on page 89 in the book "In Oiva's Wonderland".
