Fire Bird for Suomalainen Kirjakauppa 1982 - Oiva Toikka Nuutajärvi RARE
Fire Bird was the second bird for Finnish Book Store by Oiva Toikka in 1982. It is hand made in the legendary Nuutajärvi glass village in Finland. Suomalainen Kirjakauppa commissoned one bird each year in 1981-1983. These early three Bookstore birds, Blue Bird, Fire Bird and Green Bird, are rarely seen for sale. They are sometimes mixed up with the later birds commissioned for SSKK (- the book Club), but these are a of a different series.
This bird is of bright red, lucent glass that turns into a yellowish orange tone towards the bottom. It has broad, lustered bands all over the body except for the front part and the underside. The bird is numbered 461/500.
This is yet another example of a bird from the early production, with nice features. It is fun to watch for clues to the name of the bird in the design. On the last photo we pictured this bird together with a beautiful Blue Bird for Suomalainen Kirjakauppa from 1981.
