Fire Bird for Suomalainen Kirjakauppa 1982 - Oiva Toikka Nuutajärvi RARE
A vintage Fire Bird for Finnish Book Store in 1982, designed by Oiva Toikka and hand made in legendary Nuutajärvi village in Finland.
Suomalainen Kirjakauppa commissoned one bird each year in 1981-1983. These early three Bookstore birds, Blue Bird, Fire Bird and Green Bird, are rarely seen for sale. They are sometimes mixed up with the later birds commissioned for SSKK (- the book Club), but these are a of a different series.
This Fire Bird is numbered 407/500.
It is of lucent bright red glass that, well correlating to its name, turns into a yellowish orange tone towards the bottom. It has slightly diffuse, broad, lustered bands all over the body but not at all on the front part, which leaves an opportunity to admire the "fire" inside, especially in bright light.
This is yet another example of a bird from the early production, with nice features to explore.
