The Cloud Tern, the Annual Bird for year 2007.
Designed by famous professor Oiva Toikka and hand made in legendary Nuutajärvi glass factory in Finland.
Have you ever studied the curly feather pattern of a Cloud Tern closely? - There are two wave-layers of blue stipes on top of each other, in different phases. One could wonder how those two phases stay so regular and without interference with each other in the melted glass in the process of forming the bird... See close up view!
The answer is of course the filigree technique, but it is very impressing that they utilised that challenging technique so well.
You find this bird on page 149 in the new book "Toikka's Glass Birds". The book is for sale elsewhere on this site.
The last picture shows this bird together with an egg that is very appropriate in color for this particular individual.
The egg will be for sale elsewhere on this site.
