Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) is one of the most successful and well known ceramic artists in Finland. His most famous designs were made at Arabia Ceramics factory.
The ELEGANCE wall plates were produced with 6 alternative decorations designed by Birger Kaipiainen as part of the Pro Arte collection by Arabia in the 80s. A numbered series was produced of each variant. Some are decorated with yellow flowers, some are decorated with fruits and berries, one is with the blue Violas.
This is number 6 and has two big lilac flowers in the middle and watches and bees in the perifery. Watches with the time at 12:15 are very typical features seen on many of Birger Kaipiainen's plates. This plate is number 337 in its series. It is in an excellent condition.
The surface of this plate is smooth, the real looking black pearls are very skillfully painted. The surface finish on this plate is, as in most of Birger Kaipiainen's art plates, slightly iridescent. The plate is not ment to be used for food or washed with strong chemicals.
