This is a special numbered item for the 50 years jubilee of the Aalto vases in 1986. The Sea Green color was one of the original colors of these vases half a century earlier. This vase comes in a special green box and with a nice informative small leaflet with texts about the Aalto vase designs. Iittala produced 8000 numbered pieces of this vase for export and 8000 numbered pieces for the domestic market. This vase bears a triangular Iittala sticker and has a special hand written signature. It is 160mm high. There are a couple of very small harmless air bubbles within the glass, not entering the surface.
The Aalto vase designed by famous architect Alvar Aalto is an icon of Finnish design. The first versions of it was presented in 1936 and these vases got much attention at the Paris World Fair in 1937. Since then the Aalto vase in many different sizes and versions has conquered the hearts of many generations world wide. It has been produced in numerous different colors and color variants.
The elegantly folding glass is a perfect example of Alvar Aalto's free flowing imagination.
The vases are still today mouth blown into a mold at the Iittala glass factory in Finland. The production of one vase goes through 12 work stages, and every single Aalto vase is hand made.
