In the 1990s it was custom to sign the variants with a sequential number for that specific color followed by the production year of the vase. So for this vase the signature tells us that this was the 361th vase made in this color, and that this vase was made in year 1993.
This is in an elegant green-gray color that is difficult to describe as the impression changes almost magically with the surrounding and the light. We photographed it together with three of our new colored Miranda bowls in different colors (grey, moss green and linen) to give you an impression of how this vintage vase looks compared to modern hues.
The Aalto vase designed by famous architect Alvar Aalto is an icon of Finnish design. The first versions of it was presented in 1936 and these got much attention at the Paris World Fair in 1937. Since then the Aalto vase in many different sizes and color versions has conquered the hearts of many generations world wide. The elegantly folding glass is a perfect example of Alvar Aalto's free flowing imagination.
The vases are still today mouth blown into a mold at the Iittala glass factory in Finland. The production of one vase goes through 12 work stages, and every single Aalto vase is hand made.
