A massive vintage crystal art glass bowl designed by Tapio Wirkkala in the -50s. Its item number at Iittala is 3344 and the design was introduced 1953. The bowl weighs over 2,5kg, and stands steadily. It has mild normal wear with some scratches which is normal for a heavy vintage item that is about 70 years old. The overall impression is however very good and there are no chips or cracks on this item.
The multitalented Finnish design genius, Tapio Wirkkala, designed in a wide range of different materials. Nature was a very important source of inspiration for Wirkkala as he spent a lot of time at his cottage in Lapland observing nature and ice formations. At the Triennale exhibitions in Milan, Wirkkala von multiple Grand Prizes.
