Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) is one of the most successful and well known ceramic artists in Finland. His most famous designs were made at Arabia Ceramics factory.
This art plate "The Second Millennium Plate" that is numbered 215 out of 400, was made at Arabia Finland to celebrate the Millennium and it is a typical representative of Birger Kaipiainen's more decorative design. It is oval in shape and is decorated with many strategically placed ceramic pearls, creating a third dimension to the surface. The plate is also hand painted.
The glaze is partly iridescent, which brings something magic to how light acts on the colors.
