The popular Aalto vase designed by famous architect Alvar Aalto is an icon of Finnish design. It has been produced in many sizes. This is a small version of this vase. On the second picture you see this vase next to the 12cm vase of ours. On the last picture you see this vase together with a small bowl with exactly the same bottom shape. The color of the bowl is called "rain". The bowl migt in the early days have been ment to be used as an ashtray, but there is doubth if one has the gut to do such a thing these days. Someone might have used it for paper clips at the office. But today this is a splendid piece on cocktail parties for salted peanuts, olives, small mints etc.
The Savoy vase was first presented in 1936 and got much attention at the Paris World Fair in 1937. Since then the Aalto vase has conquered the hearts of many generations world wide. It is produced in several different sizes and colors. The vase is a perfect example of Alvar Aalto's free flowing imagination.
It is still today mouth blown into a mold at the Iittala glass factory in Finland. The production of one vase goes through 12 work stages, and every single Aalto vase is unique.
